Joint Venture Partner/ Proof of Funds

I am new to real estate investing and do not have the cash to put down for hard money. It is for that reason that I decided to partner with someone who will fund the whole deal. However I am starting to get skeptical of him as he wants to directly transfer the funds to my bank instead doing it through the closing attorney. Also when I asked him for proof of funds so that I can use it to submit my offer, he said that I have to use my own. I'm new so I don't know whether I do have to find my own pre-qual or if he is the one that needs to provide it to me since he is the one funding the deal.
