How do you find sellers?

How do you target your sellers/homes? It seems like direct mail is common. Do people use direct mail services like postcard mania or do the buy lists off of list services and do it themselves? Do you target certain homes such as preforclosures or absentee owners or just owner occupied. Trying to get stated with finding the most efficient and effective way to target homeowner that want to or need to sell. Would love to hear input on how people do it.
