Real estate agents does your broker set sales expectations?

I am thinking about getting my license to transition out of my current corporate job of 25 years. Talking with the agent that is selling our home right now about real estate and training. He said that the local company he works under has a great training plan but they are tough. Every agent must sell $5 million minimum every year or they get cut. Sounds great to sell over $5m but also seems like a tough nut to crack for a newbie. Curious to know if this is common practice in real estate?

Sounds high especially for a new agent. However, in certain markets that may not be that many properties. I live next door to a broker that has 24 agents. She stated they ALL produce. If NO production within the first year she tells them to hang their license elsewhere.
