Home square footage vs lot size

I am intrested in buying my first property in Richmond, Ca. There are a few options in my price range under 300k but I've noticed that some of the smaller houses I've found are on larger lots ie a 800 sqft house on a 4400 sqft lot. VS a 1000 sqft house on a 2000 sqft lot. The houses are all around the same price, area and condition. Just wondring if I should take the lot size into consideration when purchasing? I would think so as there is the option to add sqft at a later point. Any thoughts?

Is this for a flip or a buy and hold? Lot size for a rental property is largely irrelevant in my neck of the woods, so I can't say how important it is in northern Cali. Most renters are just concerned with a place to live and don't want huge yards they would have to maintain anyways.

If it's for a flip, then you would need to take the lot size into consideration as this can alter the appraisal value of a home in relation to the comps if your lot is half as big (or small) as the surrounding ones.
