FSBO Listing signed today with prior interested buyer

Hoping for some advice. The home in question was listed with a different brokerage for a short period of time that didn't work out and was canceled. The owners then listed the home FSBO but have decided to relist with an agent to have access to more resources that only a license agent would have.

Upon discussing the potential listing the owners mentioned they were in communication with a potential buyer who contacted them off an online ad they had posted while the house was FSBO. If that buyer ends up purchasing the property would they need to pay the listing commission even though they found that buyer before a listing agreement was signed? They have provided the name of the interested individual and disclosed that they were in discussions with the individual prior to agreeing to relist with the brokerage.
