A question about realestate.

Hello everyone. I want to ask a question to anyone out there who have been successful at purchasing a property home with tenants and make a profit off of it.

First, I'm a complete newbie. I layed out a plan for the future. I wonder if its possible to retire at an early age (maybe like 35-40 years old. currently 28). I figured its probably not a good idea to pay mortgage on a property so I was thinking I would find a temp career job that pays decently and save up enough money to buy a property at the set price.

So when this day comes, do you think 1 property is enough to make a living? Say for example the building is 5 or 10 units all with tennants. Perhaps this sounds to simple or unrealistic?
