Novice Getting into Real Estate Investing

I want to get into real estate investing, but I do not want to go into it blind. Can anyone share your first experience getting into the flipping business? Did you come in with capital or had to raise it via private investors? Also, any recommended books, webinars, seminars  or classes.  My desire is to start off small flipping bank owned property in under appreciate area such as the inner cities. Any advice will be greatly appreciated
