First deal - what strategy should I learn about - NYC

Hi BP community,

I'm absolutely brand new to REI. I have a great corporate job that pays well but at some point soon I want to go out on my own and work for myself. My current savings are a little under $10k with much higher student loan debt. Real estate seems like a great avenue for that and I would love to learn more.

That being said, I've heard several opinions on wholesaling. Some say its key in starting out without any capital and others say that that particular market is saturated, possibly illegal, or unsuitable for a beginner.

So my question to the community is this: if not wholesaling then what? What strategies should I be learning about to get my feet wet, especially in NYC where property values are crazy high?

Thanks in advance for all responses!
