Peter G. If you own 5 homes the chance of 1 of them having a roof problem is higher (your gumball example)

If you own 5 homes the chance of all of them having a roof problem is lower than if you own 1 home and it has a roof problem. For all of your properties to have a roof problem, it is more likely to have 1 roof problem on one house than it is to have 5 roof problems on all your homes. 100% of 1 = 1 and 100% of 5 = 5

Having multiple properties spreads your risk out and 1 roof problem out of your 5 homes doesn't hurt like a roof problem on your only home
