Change Single Family to Multi-family (Duplex/Triplex)

Hello,

I have a piece of land in The colony (TX) which is zoned as Single family. I am thinking, it is possible to convert the zone  to a multi-family where I can build a triplex or duplex.

if yes, then how should I go about doing it. Any tips or recommendation.

Or

there is no need for zone change ?

Thanks in advance

Vish
