Hi

How common are referral fees in the real estate industry? 

A friend of mine works for a financial company, insurance retirement etc. And he tells me that if I use an agent they recommend and I buy a house, I could get some money back.

Is this legal? Common? Something that is illegal but people do it anyway to drum up business?
