How to find deals not on the mls

Ive been searching the MLS for months and can't come across anything that looks like a decent deal. What are some other ways I can find houses?

@Alexandra D. hit it on the head.  A good relationship with a few agents is huge.  Make sure they know what you're looking for and be clear that even on creative deals you can cover commissions.
