73.3 million housing units are owner occupied in the US.  Of these 46.4M have mortgages or debt (about 2/3) and 26.9M are free and clear.

Owners 65 year or older have 44% of the housing wealth while only owning 30% of the housing stock.

These stats provide interesting options for seeking houses with no debt.
