Possible to buy a Foreclosure before Listing/Auction?

Hello everyone,

My husband Will and I found a house that is in Foreclosure. The owner is still living in it and told us that the bank will list it in about a month. The house is perfect for one of our projects and we would love to make a deal with the bank before they list it / before the auction.

Is it possible to buy a foreclosure before it is listed?
What is the best way to approach the bank?

Thank you for pointing us in the right direction. Your advice is greatly appreciated :)

Lena & Will
