Am i on right Visa to do so

I am from New Zealand living in Virginia and i have the money for a down payment for a Mortgage or Loan and i am inquiring if i can on a B1/B2 visa is that allowing me to do so.

1. Are there any illegal/legal requcutions with doing that.

2. If all clear who can point me in the right direction.
