Can I trust him?

Hello all, 

I will keep it short and simple. I recently contacted a gentlemen about being a mentor for me in my pursuit to become a wholesaler. To my disbelief he has said yes, and started right away with telling me what books to read etc. He does this full time since 2000. He has invited me to sit down during a closing, as well as walk a house. He seems very eager and for the life of me I can't figure out why it seems to good to be true. Has given me a list of houses he has found and already under contract and is willing to split it 50/50 if I bring a buyer.  My question to you guys is this, is there anyway I can be screwed?
