Property bought at Sheriff Auction

I purchased a house at a Sheriff Auction. I already paid them up. My lawyer advised me to order a title report first and make sure it is clear before I pick up the deed. He claims that picking up the deed means final sale and I will no longer be able to pull back if anything comes up. 

Does anybody have experience with this and would be able to tell me if this makes sense?
