Investment Property Intermediaries?

I am new to the real estate investment world, and I'm wondering what you all think about using an investment property intermediary.  Someone who gives advice and has affiliates they work with that are property providers and property managers you go through to buy and manage real estate investments.  These affiliates are turnkey property providers.  Do you like them or do you suggest doing it on your own?
