New construction premium

I'm interested in others experience. Does the premium to buy new construction properties worth the lower cost of maintenance and repair? I'm interested in long-term investment. I see the trade off as older cheaper homes seem to require more cash after the property is acquired and higher repair/maintenance then new construction that probably requires high down payment and overall mortgage.
