Working directly with owner

I'm interested in buying this abandoned house that has been on sale for a while. I've been trying to get in touch with real estate agent, but they've been very unresponsive. Each time I reach someone they give me different agent to reach. So I decided to look for property records and found property owners contact information. My questions is can I reach the owner and see if he wants to work directly? Is this even legal? Property is in North Jersey. What do you think I should do?

I have never heard that a regular buyer had to go through the agent if a property was listed. Yes a licensed realtor has to go through the agent and can't contact the seller directly. But a regular buyer should be able to deal directly with the seller as long as the realtor gets paid their Commission. Check with your attorney for confirmation.
