Savannah, GA suburbs

Hi all,

My wife and I will be in the Savannah area in late June on vacation. It also is one of the areas that I am interested in possibly investing in. My initial searches have led me to the suburbs of Pooler and Richmond Hill. They seem to have positive neighborhood reviews online, good price to rent ratios, and are an easy commute into Savannah.

My question is, can any locals give me insight into these two areas, or others worth taking a closer look into? I won't have more than a few hours on this first initial trip down there so I would like to focus my pre-trip research into one or two areas.

Anyone investing on the outskirts of Savannah?

Thanks for the help,

Mathew

    Hello Mathew,

Pooler and Richmond Hill are both nice areas to check out - some other sought after areas on the west side are the following:  Godley Station (Subdivision - northern Pooler area), Savannah Quarters (Subdivision - south of Pooler), Southbridge (Subdivision east of Savannah Quarters), and Georgetown (city south of Pooler/ NE of Richmond Hill).  I'm not sure of the price or type of properties you're interested in, but there's a great amount of sales activity in these areas, so you might want to look for properties in or nearby.

If you happen to have more time, Ardsley Park within the city (Midtown) is another area that sells quickly.  Downtown/historic area has many beautiful homes and multifamily properties - but it's a little trickier finding a really good property (i.e. that doesn't need a ton of work and is in a safe area).  My husband and I drove past a quadplex in downtown today and my heart just sunk - all of the properties on this particular block were really rundown.  But the houses on the very next block were much nicer.  I moved here from Atlanta a couple years ago and an interesting thing I've noticed is that you might be in a really nice area and then you make one turn, then it's "Oh NO, where am I and how do I get out."

Nevertheless, I would still keep an eye out for properties in the historic area.  Keep in mind we have year round tourism, so vacation properties are another type of rental you might want to add to your portfolio.  I also must mention the Islands - Talahi, Wilmington, and Tybee.  Again, not sure what you're looking for or your price range, but anything close to the beach is going be in demand - especially with a "million" people visiting during the summer months.

    Hope this helps!

    Shonda
