Hello,

I am very new to investing and am looking to invest out of state. I'm looking at the Dallas and Houston area for single family homes. Are there any locals or investors that can recommended any zip codes or neighborhoods in B areas to invest in or any zip codes to stay away from? Thanks.

Okay, I'll offer a contrarian view on this thread.  I think you need to think long and hard before coming to Texas.  Unless, you are willing to put in major, major time, and get boots on the ground, the chances of you getting screwed (or doing a deal that is very marginal at best)  are very high.  We've got unscrupulous agents, wholesalers, and turnkey providers who love to target California money.  (No offense, but there's a stereotype.)  Our property taxes are high and continue to skyrocket, prices have gone up quite a bit, and structural  issues with homes abound.  I would absolutely rule out markets within 2 hours of you before you come here.  Let me be clear, I invest here and love it, but I live here and I've been doing it for 8 years.  I see locals and out of states getting ripped off all the time.
