Buying property in the Woodlawn area in Chicago

Hello everyone! I'm looking to buy a two or three-flat building near Hyde Park in Chicago and wanted some input on where I can get the most for my money. I have been pre-approved for $300,000 through the VA, but my options seem to be pretty slim. I've been thinking about the Woodlawn area, but I'm not sure if this would be a wise investment or not. I'm familiar with Bronzeville, Kenwood, and Hyde Park because I have friends that live in these areas. I like these areas, but nothing in my price range is available. I would be living in one unit and renting the other one or two out. Is the Woodlawn area a good area to move forward with my search? If no, what other good options are there in Chicago? Thanks in advance for all feedback.

Hey Latricia,

As with alot of neighborhoods on the southside there are pockets that are good and not so good even in the areas that you mentioned..I would say you need a realtor who is familiar with the south side or research the blocks of the properties you are interested in..But to answer your question specifically, woodlawn is nice from cottage groove going east to the lake..A lot of rehabbing and new development going on...Also south shore, Avalon park, bridgeport, pockets of chatham and gresham and Washington heights..Hope this was helpful..Let me know if you need any further assistance!..
