Sell 1st home with out Real Estate Agent

What are the steps to sale your house on your own with out a real estate agent?

Currently, renting a house out of town for about 8 months (job relocation), also paying mortgage on primary house out of town.  I am considering renting to tenant until I can sale the house in my home town.  After 8 months of renting where I am at currently, I will look at a mortgage.

I do not want to pay two mortgages, but considering renting or selling primary home.  What would be a good approach?  Has anyone had a similar situation?
