Referral of 50% for a Seller Lead?
HI there, I'm a licensed agent and I recently had an out-of-state agent offer me a seller referral for a 450k condo. I've done referral before and typical percentage is 20 to 30%. This agent wanted 50%. My broker encouraged me to stand my ground at 30%. The referring agent said they would take their business elsewhere and unfriended me on facebook the next day!
I'm not wining here, but it has now been about two months and I have not seen the property come on the Market. My guess is the greedy agent found no one to do their bidding and the Seller is left with no one contacting them.
My Question is this: is it poor form to reach out to the Seller? I would happly give the referring agent 30% if they ever requested, but we have no agreement to do so.
