split blind HUD 1 closing

This is a new approach to me, I literally just found this term 3 days ago.... I spent several hours researching what it is but why would someone use it? Isn't there risks on both sides of the table when using this closing procedure?

Does anyone know if this type of closing is legal in Maryland?

Also, why are people getting passionately upset when I describe what it is? I guess I don't understand how it can be an absolute horrible way to close. HELP!
