Buying multiple properties on the same block

I recently bought the empty lot right on the side of my house in order to build a nice driveway or possibly even a garage. The house right next to the lot, which is next to my house, is for sale. I am thinking of buying it because then I would have 2 houses right next to each other. The house across the street is also for sale. Is it a good idea to buy multiple properties on the same block? I would think it would be easier to manage with them all being with in my site everyday?...
