We've been renting this house for 2 years and asked the Landlord if he would be willing to sell it. He said yes, and talked to his Realtor and they came up with a price, which sounds reasonable to us. The realtor says they will represent us and we don't need our own realtor, and that the price they quoted us was based on the thought that we wouldn't have our own Realtor. That all sounded suspicious to me, and I'm now concerned about getting ripped off. Should I get my own realtor just to ease those concerns? Or should I ask them to lower the price a little to offset the fact that we won't have our own realtor?
If not, is there anything I should specifically do to make sure I have my bases covered, like perhaps finding my own Inspector? We have some concerns, such as the quality of the back deck and the quality of the electrical wiring. The house is a craftsmen. The 2nd floor of the house was built by the Landlord. The basement was finished by the Landlord and is rented out as a mother-in-law, which we would like to continue to do while we live upstairs.
