Listing a Property on MLS Before It's Actually for Sale?
Would it be considered acceptable to ask my real estate agent to list a property for sale on MLS now if I actually want to close the sale in about 6 months from now for tax purposes?

If the house is actually for sale, but you don't want to close for 6 months, as long as you can close then, it's possible to list it on MLS. Builders do it all the time.
Your local market will have a lot to do with how well that strategy works. In a high demand market, buyers may be willing to wait. If there's a large inventory, probably not.
