St. Pete / Petersburg Beach
I am looking for members who either live in the St. Pete Beach area and/or own vacation rentals in the area. My wife and I attempted to purchase a vacation rental near Upham Beach in August 2009, but the deal fell through because of a low appraisal.
My wife did some research on that section of beach and found the stories about the eroision and the ugly Geotubes. In hindsight we clearly should have done more research prior to making the offer. My wife completely soured on buying in that section, and previously ruled out the properties along Blind Pass Road.
When we were actively looking, we were pre-approved up to $170,000. Although our finances have improved since then, our comfort level would be below $150,000. Of course near Upham Beach and properties along Blind Pass Road are the most affordable vacation properties in St. Pete Beach.
Does anyone own a rental in these areas? If so, how well does it rent? I read on BP that insurance rates are outrageous. I don't recall that being a problem in 2009. Are vacation rentals in this area even a viable option?
Also curious about the Tradewinds? I have seen many units pop up in our price range over the years, but I was always a bit concerned about their rental program.
We vacation annually not far from Dolphin Village. That is the area we would like to stay and would love to find an affordable rental property.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
