My Next Step

Hello All, I am a new member to BiggerPockets but I would also like to become a new investor. I'm just at a stand still point right now with my next step, I'm fairly young. I was able to be approved for a mortgage loan just recently. Just not sure if I should exercise that opportunity? A buddy has introduced The HUD home program to me, which does interest me heavily. Just not sure if it's safe? An if I'd be able to turn it into a investment property? Like renting it out to people. Would just like some feed back on how I should invest? Don't have a lot to put down, but I have a steady full time job with a lot of motivation. Any advice? Thanks.
