Buying House At Tax Auction

I am in the state of NY and am looking to buy a tax auction property. The current owner is still alive. If she has a will that the property be left to her son (who unfortunately passed as well), therefore it may be passed over to granddaughter, will that will be extinguished at the sale of the property?
