Where can US citizen own property outside the United States?

I've googled it. It doesn't seem to be an easy question to answer. Is there a complied list somewhere? I know Belize is a hot item right now. I just want to know my options.

Thanks,

Jeri

I second Naveen

We just finished our first international syndication by building units in a new resort development on Ambergris Caye in Belize.

A good rule of thumb to look for is jurisdictions that use British Common Law as their basis of law.

You have 3 major systems of law around the world:

1. British common law (Britain, U.S., Canada, Australia, Belize, etc...)

2. Napoleonic Law (Louisiana, Mexico, Honduras etc...)

3. Sharia Law

Once you find what countries have British common law then you can drill down on the specifics of ownership and if there are any quirky restrictions, but for the most part, British Common law jurisdictions allow fee simple title and little restriction on foreign ownership.

The next step of course is determining if those jurisdictions have the specific growth drivers that coincide with your investment philosophy.
