Bad idea to close without testing gas?
Hi all - made it to closing week and the city has been unable to turn on the gas for a rowhome I'm looking to buy (where I'll be the primary resident). Apparently there is an ongoing project that may take up to 6-8 weeks to sort everything out. I'm not too worried about the heat and I'd like to close/move-in asap. I had inspections and everything turned out good (other than the fact I was unable to test the heat and stove).
I'd still like to close and the seller is ok with adding a warranty plus $20k in escrow in case there are problems with the gas.
I'm still pretty new to the real estate game, so I wanted to get any advice on things I should be wary of. Is this a risky move or am I covered with the funds in escrow and warranty?
