online lenders

I have a purchase agreement on my first investment property. Now I need to choose financing. My question is: Are the online lenders a good idea? Are the main ones found on bankrate.com legit? Would they be more of a pain in the neck than a local lender? I trying to decide if saving a few bucks on my monthly mortgage would be worth using an online lender or if I should use a local bank?
