What happened to interest rates

I know rates have been climbing which I expected but on Monday I was pre-approved for a rate of 5.125. I call today to verify the rate before I make an offer and it shot up to 6% in just a few days. Does anyone know why the sudden sharp increase. This was for a SFH 30 year no points and good credit. It took the home from a marginal deal to a bad one, thankfully I checked but I was hoping for the opposite of it going down slightly with the yield curve inverting earlier in the week.
