Appraisal costs in California

Corey Phipps
Posted

I am currently working on a HELOC for my primary residence to have a cash source for continued REI. I am working with PenFed and their vendor for appraisals is quoting $1,550. Our property is rural in Sonoma County with a 2 bed / 2 ba main house and an in-law unit. This seems very high. My last appraisal for the property was in 2018 and was <$600. Is this the going rate for appraisals in this area?

Thanks,

Corey

I paid $700 over the summer in Santa Rosa and it was higher since they also had to provide rental income data.
