Recommendations for Home Building

Hi all - can any of you recommend any books or videos I might benefit from reading or watching before buying land? I don't have a ton of capital but intend to start small. Acquire the right property, then build a garage with an apartment unit above. Continue building when funds become available thereafter. I would like to be more informed about the entire process - timelines; expenses; unanticipated hurdles, etc. I'm inclined to start with a dummies guide but figure other suggestions couldn't hurt! Thanks!
