Wanted to Buy

Frank Lloyd Wright designed some early mobile homes. I am looking to buy one to fully restore and donate to the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana. If you own one, or can find one, I will pay top dollar for it.

In 1970 National Homes built mobile homes based on Frank Lloyd Wright's earlier designs from 1957 (just a couple of years before he died) that were used in a mobile home park in Paradise on Wheels Mobile Home Park. Lee Ackerman, well known in our industry as an early pioneer, who was developing the park in the early 1950s, convinced Wright to take on the project for a measly $250.00. The manufacturer was a small Arizona firm whose name I have in my files but not in front of me.

The plans have been moved from Taliesin West to Taliesin in Wisconsin, but they are still there. I'm sure if Kevin wanted to build from the designs, he could work something out with them. HUD I'm not so sure about.

Wright also designed a 442 space mobile home park right outside of Phoneix in 1952. Much of this history is archived at the RV/MH Hall of Fame library in Elkhart, Indiana.

I am aware of this because I have been a part of this industry since 1975 as a community developer, retailer, and lender and now consultant. I also love this industry and care about its history.
