Recent post date but thread posts years old?

I have been exploring PB lately and noticed that when searching posts the search result will list a date from this year, but when you click the post to read through its thread, the post and replies are all from years ago... am I misunderstanding how the dating displays? I thought perhaps the date listed in the search results is the date of the most recent reply, but when I click and and scroll to the bottom (presumably the most recent post on that thread) that reply is also several years old. I prefer to look at newer content so I know I'm looking at today's information and not information from several years ago. Thanks!
