“Switch to New Forums?”

Can anyone at BP or otherwise explain what this option to “Switch to New Forums” does at the top-right of the forums? Clicking it does not appear to do anything. Is this a sign BP is getting rid of these non-working-on-mobile drop down hierarchal menus from 1995? Deploying a modern forums solution with search that works? Creating a more robust member inbox/comms system? 

One can wish, right?
