Why visit and participate on BiggerPockets?

Question

The other day I was giving thought to this question, "Why visit and participate on Bigger Pockets?"

For me there are a number of reasons.
1)  It is an opportunity to share what I have learned and help where I can
2)  It is an opportunity to learn from others experiences, knowledge and wisdom built on knowledge
3)  It is a great place to meet other professionals and aspiring professionals
4)  It is a place to ask questions

I'm curious why others visit.  I'm not sure that I understand why some would rather hide in the shadows and not draw on some of the greater benefits of the site.  Please share what you hope to get out of Bigger Pockets - why you are here.

I come to BP because the site gives me motivation to do better. I'm a firm believer of surrounding yourself with people that you want to emulate. Since I don't know any investors in real life, I use this site as inspiration. The advice is good and it has helped me to be a better investor. As a newbie, I don't have much advice to give, but I do try to add my opinion.

I, like many others, found BP by accident when searching the Internet to find answers when I was trying to get my real estate investing start...little did I know then that I had struck gold.  I stuck around because other members were so helpful in answering my questions, other threads offered great advice, and the various posts answered so many of my initial questions.

As time went on I started answering questions myself and welcoming new members to the site, hoping they would see the value as well. As I gained some experience and some confidence I got more and more involved, started blogging and began to expand my investing strategy.

I come back to BP because I learn something new everyday and hopefully I am able to help someone daily as well.  There is a sense of community on BP that is unrivaled and there are several members I would call friends (some I have met in person at the conference and others have not).  BP has provided traffic to my website, financing options, and maybe someday some joint ventures or other business...I am not going anywhere anytime soon!

The business is nice but what I love most about this site is everyday I learn something.

I love commercial real estate. It is interesting to hear about other types of real estate and I learn from reading the posts but I don't focus on those types of investments. I still like to have sound knowledge of different ways to invest.

I could sit in a room and go over case studies for hours and get excited about how each played out. For some it is about just the money but not me.

I think it is a great place to connect with other investors and also clients.

Many that connect are just not forum type people and contact me privately but read posts from a search engine or by looking on the site and reading posts.

Making money is an awesome reason for being involved and I know that you are quite involved here.  Congrats on your successes and what you have given to the community.

I've also profited from relationships that I've built here.  It is nice to have a list of people that you have grown to know, like and trust enough to share and do business with.  Where else can you come in contact with so many successful individuals.

Beyond the reasons you've given, I am doing deals and other business with fellow members.  It took a couple years to get it going, but I've bought properties with other members, sold property to another member, been introduced to new partners by members, outsourced marketing to other members, all over the past two years.  BP not only has given me an education, it's directly helped me money.

It's funny, when I was eighteen I could have told you how the world worked and how to fix the worlds problems. However, the older I get, the more I realize that I don't know anything. So I joined BiggerPockets to lean from those with more experience and hopefully reap the benefit from those experiences. I have alot of questions and I like to be well informed before making a move. I look for things that are adventitious and help bridge the gap so my endeavors are successful.

Can't pass up the opportunity to jump in.

As most already know, I'm here to make life miserable for investors, point out why you can't do something, at times be critical and convince some not to do something,  which I'm sure is why I'm so loved.

LOL, not really but I know it seems that way to many. BP is a great place for opinions on a wide variety of topics, a great information center. I'm retired and just trying to put out information and ideas to contribute to the industry. The gain for me is receiving the e-mails and PMs saying thanks, giving without expectations.
Oh, an I learn stuff too!!   :)

I just came across the site and it looked cool.  I've skipped over in the past because "Bigger Pockets" sounds like a cheesy get-rich-quick thing and figured this forum wasn't worth it.  I finally read through a few posts and it seems pretty cool, and there are other experienced investors like myself.
