clicking on link takes me to the top

when i get an email that someone's replied to a thread, it takes me to page 1, post 1 of that thread.

the thread can be 10 pages long, but i still go to the top. pretty annoying. i'd like to get to the post that initiated that email to appear in my inbox.

also, right after i post, i am taken to the top of that post. why? every other forum takes you to your reply.
