Question

I'm interested in hearing how many of you pay attention to what's happening in the news - as it pertains to real estate?

- Do you keep up with what's going on in the local real estate press?  
- Do you follow national mortgage and housing news?  
- Do you track or pay attention to all the data that comes out about real estate each week?
- What's the most important real-estate-related news as it concerns you?
- What about real estate and housing blogs?  Do you pay attention to these?

I'm interested in finding out how important this stuff is to you - our audience.  Please share!

Yes, my local market affects me very much.  I try to read all I can on occupancy and rental rate trends.

- Do you follow national mortgage and housing news?

Yes, but to a lesser extent.

- Do you track or pay attention to all the data that comes out about real estate each week?

All?  No, but I read the WSJ and a few other outlets regularly.  I total, in probably read about 25-40 articles per week.

- What's the most important real-estate-related news as it concerns you?

Local rental trends

- What about real estate and housing blogs? Do you pay attention to these?

They are not as important, but I do read some of them.

NO- I read J Scott's blog occasionally but for the most part no.

Its really funny I work in the mortgage industry but I never listen to the news. I use to be a daytrader a few years ago and then I traded foreign exchange for a while. I learn't through those experiences that the news and the data is lagging. So the news will tell you what has already taken place so I cannot look to them for future because they are reporting the past.
In reference to blogs it occurs to me that the major players in any local market never blog about it,those who are doing 30 plus flips a year you never hear them talk about it via their blog or twitter or facebook. I'm going to make J. Scott my exception, there are maybe 1 or 2 more from here but usually people who blog I find do so out of the need to brag about all they are accomplishing or sell something. There is a small saying those who cannot do - TEACH.
The market data I rely on is once a day I scroll MLS and check out all the rehabs that are up for sale, what areas they are in, then I check sold rehabs for the county every week to find out what sell, how long they sold for, what they looked like and how long they were on the market.

Do you keep up with what's going on in the local real estate press? 
Yes, since we belong to CAR & NAR, we get weekly information of what's happening.  Dont read the newspaper but do read online.

- Do you follow national mortgage and housing news? 
Yes but not too extensive, since I like to find other good areas to invest.  I also like to compare our market & the national.

- Do you track or pay attention to all the data that comes out about real estate each week? 
Yes, I try to since we do some traditional RE through referral & need to be on top of the data. I need it for our investing too.

- What's the most important real-estate-related news as it concerns you? 
To see what Congress is up to & our local legislation & how their bills will affect our investing.  For instance, the suspension of the FHA 90 day rule or 20%, banks continue to place that rule in the process.  BofA denied our buyer indicating that we didnt follow the 90 day rule & we passed the 20% rule, yet they asked no questions to us as the sellers!!!  
- What about real estate and housing blogs? Do you pay attention to these?
I'm not good at blogging, BP is my first experience & I love this forum. I would love to pay attention, but I'm usually on BP just before bed while I'm travelling. So finding time is hard to do all!  BP helps a whole bunch!

I like to get a sense of what is going on in the various real estate markets, economy, taxes and legislative issues that might effect real estate.

I read news articles everyday.  I don't necessarily follow market trends though.

The most important news for many is tax and legislative issues being discussed that may involve real estate or financing.

I like to follow the blogs because there is fascinating and sometimes very useful information shared.

I like to know what is going on in the mortgage industry are rates going up.  Is credit likely to be tighter or more available.  Are any new products available.  There are sometimes other bits of news that prove helpful as well.

No, I have not read a newspaper in many years.

No, because it is based only on headlines and not content.  I also don't follow it because the news is so contradictory, depends on which sources they use to get the headlines they want.

Nope, not enough time to digest all that information.

Local unemployment trends and "For Rent" signs.

Yes I do.

Not as much as I do the local stuff.

More like monthly as far as data is concerned but I'll read an article of interest anywhere I see it.

Sales numbers and vacancy rates.

I still read them but not as much as I used to.

We only receive the sunday times of our local county newspaper, and I save the Real Estate section for last. It covers everything from our local market to nation wide trends. Between that and what I garner here on BP, I probably receive 95% of my real estate "news".

Thanks Aaron. I probably get about 10% of my info from Facebook as well.
