Why is the edit feature not permanent?

I did a search and couldn't find an answer to my question. How come you can only edit your post for a short time after posting it?

There are times when I'd like to change a thread due to improper wording, poor explanation, etc., but cannot because I can no longer use the edit feature.

Steve is correct about the reason this was eliminated. The short time gives the poster enough time to re-read the post and make any desired edits. After that, its locked in place. Yes, we did have issues with a poster making a post then wrecking it. When other members take the time to write responses, its quite rude to erase whatever led up to those responses.

Generally the mods do not make minor edits. If you make grammar or spelling mistakes, we're not going to edit your post to correct these. Firefox is a great tool for spelling correction. If you're concerned about grammar, write in Word or a similar tool and then paste it in. Posts are edited where they violate rules. Most frequently, that's posting e-mail addresses or phone numbers or posting ads in discussion forums.
