Grayed out Keyword Alerts

Alright so I get to be THAT guy but I can't figure out what happened. Typically when looking at topics through keyword alerts they would disappear from my "queue" once I read them or marked them as read. However, recently they instead hang around in a "Grayed out" state. My computer has been on the fritz so it's probably something on my end that I screwed up but can someone clue me in to how I can get back to my previous setup?
