Funny, How I met another BPer
I am a contractor and REI. I am at Home Depot every morning at 6. Either to get a quick cup of coffee or pick up supplies. Today a young woman was tailing me as I browsed the discounted tile and then the discounted perennials. As I was checking out at the pro desk she approached me and asked if I was the owner of the company my truck and shirt represented. I said "yes". She told me she had just inherited a property close by and was looking for a contractor. She went to the pro desk and they told them I was there every morning and always purchase a lot of different items and I re-habbed homes. Well after a brief conversation turns out she took the advice of BP and visited the home depot 3 days in a row and saw my truck there everyday... Thanks BP community... Now I just have to find the time for my crews to renovate a kitchen and two baths. Being honest I told her not for 6-8 weeks and she said no worries as family has to clear out the home. I told her I might be interested in buying the property. NO WAY that would be against the BP philosophy of B & H.

As a reputable long lived real construction contractor (not paper pusher percentage taker GC or project manager) and REI I have always had enough work to put food on my table here in NJ (for 30 years straight) . Sometimes it was pasta sometimes steak but the reality is I have been employed while others were not. Why? I do what is right. Whether a flip where I changed out a single sink base in a bathroom for an investor or performed $300,000.00 work of high end restoration work on a 5 million dollar water front home. I enjoy what I do immensely. Sadly I will say that there are more "REI's" here in NJ than ever before (because of super storm "Sandy"). To many looking for fake bargains and not enough homes for inexperienced REI's. So what is happening for the REI's to make money they are performing repairs within their budget as apposed to the "correct" repairs with in the real budget to make there numbers work. I cannot save the world so I keep out of the flood zone areas and work along the fringes of the "safe zones" and all is good. Sure I am not doing the big buck gut jobs piece meal things back together stuff but I suspect I will get to the finish line faster than most. I really do not care whom I work for as long as I am able to do what is right and get paid a fair wage. What people think a fair wage is another story but then again as opposed to a foreign Dr. that works on one part of a single like same human body in a perfectly controlled environment with a million team members and makes millions of dollars a year. I work on thousands of parts of a home in the most adverse conditions to afford many humans to live in with a quarter the support as the Dr.at 25% the wage and I was born in the USA and keep my money here.
