I was quoted $4/sqft to sand and refinish hardwood floors for a 1,500 sqft. property in Detroit. Is anyone paying that kind of money to refinish floors?

Its is pretty costly but that price is the going rate for a good contractor doing it.  It is very messy and hard work and the vapors are not good to breathe.

It is like 5 procedures and If you decide to rent a machine and do it, after about the second procedure you wish you hired it out!

The biggest mistake DIY is when you sand the second and third sand.  Most people skip doing it proper and it really jacks up your floors.

Go do what you do for a living and pay the professionals that know what they are doing.
