Dishwasher setup from scratch

Kumar Gaurav
Posted

Hello,

I see all my competitors have a dishwasher in their rental unit. I would also like to install one in my rental unit. Who can help me identify the plumbing and perform full installation?

Can big box stores such as LOWES help with that or do I need to get in touch with a plumber? Appreciate your input

Thanks

Hi Kumar,

If you don't have an outlet available under the sink pulling the electric down under the sink will be the most expensive part of the install (probably) if you can't DIY it. If you have a garbage disposal already, then at least you will have electric close by. If you also have to add a garbage disposal you'll need a switched line for the disposal, but you can get one of the button switches that fit in a spare sink hole so you don't have to damage the wall above the counter for the install. My husband said modern code calls for DW and disposal on separate circuits but that is not the case in most older installs.

For the plumbing, you'll need a dishwasher tailpiece on the bowl of the sink closest to the dishwasher and a hot water supply line for the plumbing.  ask @Jim K. for details.

The other think that is sometimes an issue is cabinet space. You need a 24" base preferably next to the sink base. You can use an 18" base cabinet but you'll have to pay more for the small dw. :(

I know just enough about it to look and tell how much they're going to whine when I ask for it , lol.

Dishwashers do get apartments rented. ;)
