How can I go about learning construction skills in DC.

I am looking to learn carpentry from a skilled builder in the DC area. I am willing to work for free and travel after 5:00. If you know anybody in your network who can use a hand please let me know. I am familiar with projects but need more experience. I know how to use a wet saw to cut tile, I’ve assisted with putting up dry wall, painting, and assisted in putting up a deck.
